Czech Republic 2016 (Summer)

What a trip!  Czech Republic had it all - history, beer, architecture, beer, bridges, cherries, and beer.  Being bohemian isn’t just Czechs being cool, it’s their heritage. This area was once the Kingdom of Bohemia.  The Czech people are the world’s heaviest consumers of beer. The first pale lager, Pilsner Urquell, was brewed in the Czech city Pilsen in 1842.  Prague’s nickname is 'the city of a hundred spires' - there's actually 500.  It was the only capital city in Europe to escape the WWII bombings. The architecture in this city is breathtaking - from Baroque to Gothic, Renaissance to Romanesque, Classicism to Communist.

Chesky Krumlov is a small town in Southern Bohemia.  It's bisected by the Vltava River and dominated by its 13th century castle. The panoramic views of the old town and the river from the castle bell tower are spectacular. We had a fun-filled day rafting down the Vltava with regular pit-stops for wine, cheese, and ice-creams. While in Chesky, we stayed in a 16th century trading house on the main cobbled stoned street for 5 nights.  We truly loved Chesky and recommend it to anyone visiting the country.

Our last destination was the town of Mikulov in the South Moravian wine region. We spent the days here visiting castles, forest tree top walks, Austria, and remnants of an Iron Curtain border bridge.
