Sri Lanka 2017 (Spring)
Our first week in Sri Lanka was based at the amazing Amba Tea Estate, a working organic farm in the Uva Highlands of Sri Lanka. The farm is perched in a small valley above the Ravana-Ella Waterfalls, with views over Ella Rock and Lipton's Seat. We stayed in the original plantation cottage. The bountiful and amazingly tasty meals were prepared for us each day by a local village lady and her son. The place was paradise with some fantastic waterfalls within walking distance. The farm specialises in hand-picked artisanal teas. We had a very interesting experience during a thunderstorm one evening when lightning struck a tree outside and we all got a great shock (literally) through the concrete floor.
Our second week was based in the very beautiful Horseshoe Bay (Dikwella) on the Southern Coast. Every breakfast was omelets or coconut pancakes on the beach and every evening was a curry or seafood at same spot. The kids were able to hire surfboards for a few dollars and spent hours catching the Indian Ocean waves. Had a nice day trip to Galle, the old Portuguese fort town.
