Our first foray into Oman was a great adventure.  Musandam is the northern peninsula that juts out into the Straits of Hormuz.  This region is often called 'the Arbian Fjords'.  Here, the Arabian plate is slowly pushing under the Eurasian plate forcing the Musandam Peninsula to sink. The higher elevation mountains remain above the water, but the sea has rushed in to fill the valleys with fingers of water.  We spent a great day on a dhow exploring the clear green waters.  The next day we drove into the high Hajar mountains for a spectacular view back over the UAE.
